Join us in this four week course designed for beginner to intermediate photographers. Whether you are brand new to editing or just want to dive deeper into the foundations and really utilize the power of Lightroom, we will walkthrough both the Library and Develop Modules exploring all the amazing tools that Lightroom has to offer. You will learn how to create clean consistent edits with your RAW files, correct white balance and skin tones by reading RGB values, as well as develop a fast and efficient workflow to help speed up your editing time.

PREREQUISITES

Students need a copy of Lightroom 5, 6, Lightroom CC (2015) or Lightroom Classic.

Lesson One


LEARN ABOUT

Lesson One is all about getting organized! We will start from the very beginning for anyone brand new to Lightroom. We will review all the various methods for organizing your folders and images. Learn how to filter and find images with ease. We will also dive into the Basic Panel adjustments, talk about color space, learn how to read the histogram and make the adjustments that are needed to not only correct, but enhance your images.


ASSIGNMENT

Submit two images with white balance and basic panel adjustments. Include SOOC and Final Edit for Instructor Feedback

Lesson Two


LEARN ABOUT

In Lesson two, we are going to dive a little deeper into understanding white balance for portraits. Learn how to read RGB values based on skin type and correct it using the proper formula. We will also be exploring the Tone Curve and HSL panels. Learn to create various curves for different looks, whether bold and moody or light and airy. We will also review the how's and why's to manipulating individual color channels.


ASSIGNMENT

Submit two portrait images, utilizing the RGB formula for correcting skin, as well Tone Curve and HSL adjustments. Include SOOC and Final Edit for Instructor Feedback.

BREAK WEEK

Lesson Three


LEARN ABOUT

In lesson three we are going dive into the remaining global adjustments, walking through each panel. We will also be discussing the power of local adjustments. How to use them both to correct and creatively enhance an image. We will discuss how to identify and correct color casts, and how to properly execute subtle retouching. We will also talk about the importance of Soft Proofing and identifying when to Soft Proof an image. In addition, we will explore black and white conversions and identify what elements help to create a more dynamic conversion.


ASSIGNMENT

Submit two images with both a full color and black and white conversion. Include your SOOC and Final Edits for Instructor Feedback.

Lesson Four


LEARN ABOUT

Lesson four is all about taking what we have learned and developing a solid workflow to help establish consistency as well as speed up your editing time. We will talk about how to use, manipulate and create varying presets as well as synchronize adjustments. There will also be a creativity exercise to get you thinking outside the box.


ASSIGNMENT

Submit four complete edits from the same session or series of images. Edits should be consistent in color, exposure, contrast, and style throughout.

BONUS ASSIGNMENT

Submit one image using a preset of your choice. Briefly review what adjustments you made to the preset as well as why you chose to use this preset. Include SOOC along with Final Edit for Instructor Feedback.
