Click Pro Lisa Tichané says the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM EF lens is her hands-down favorite for capturing families and kids in action. Here’s what she loves most:

1. Movement is a core element in my work, so I need a lens that is able to follow the motion of my wild little subjects. The combination of zoom & crazy fast AF is what makes this lens so perfect to catch fast action. It’s simply unbeatable!

2. It’s versatile. You can shoot almost everything with it, from wide-angle outdoor images at 24mm to beautiful portraits with gorgeous bokeh at 70mm.

3. Last but not least, this lens is so incredibly sharp! Even at f/2.8, and whatever focal length. Did I tell you how much I love it?

What subjects/types of sessions do you mainly use it for? I seriously shoot everything with this lens, from indoor lifestyle newborn sessions to outdoor family sessions. If I had to pick one type, it’d be a toddler session or any family shoot with wild, energetic kids. You simply can’t beat this lens when there is unexpected movement involved. You can zoom in and out at light speed and the AF is so fast that you can nail focus even with jumping kids.

How long has it been your favorite? I have been a proud owner of the 24-70mm f/2.8L II for less than a year, and it has barely left my camera since. However, the love story started long before. I had the preceding 24-70mm f/2.8L I for several years before switching to version II, and it was my most-used lens. It was actually my very first L lens. I owe most of my favorite images to these two lenses!

How did it steal your heart? I can’t count the number of times this lens saved my favorite image from a session. I’m addicted to wild action, which can be tricky because you cannot always predict your subject’s movement. When a child suddenly runs unexpectedly, most of the time, my feet aren’t fast enough to follow the action and I end up with chopped heads or feet if I shoot with a prime lens. With the 24-70L, I can react in a fraction of a second and catch the perfect shot even when I’m surprised.
