runway vs real way | nautical stripes

What do we wear?!  This is a common question from clients when they’re planning their photo session.  If you’ve ever had your portraits taken, you understand the challenge.  In this new bi-monthly blog series, CMmember and former jewelery designer Joyce Kang and CMpro and makeup artist Dana Tate will share some hot trends with you and advice you can offer to your clients asking that exact question!

Beach Boys on the radio, flip flops, popsicles and swimming pools…  Ahhhh!  Summer is here!

I know many of you probably already had your summer vacation planned months ago.  The last thing left to worry about now is what to pack!  Ugh, the agony of packing light!  This is what I always stressed about the most because I do have to pack for 4 kids plus my husband and I.  This means costly luggage fees if we aren’t smart about what to bring.  Luckily, my frequent mileage in my “pre-children” days is finally paying off!

The best way to always look your best but still have room in your luggage to bring back souvenirs is to decide on a “theme” when you pack.  Since the nautical style is HUGE this season, I will build my vacation outfits around one key piece:  The nautical stripe dress.  By coordinating other pieces around the “center piece”, I can easily mix and match and adding different accessories to create several trendy looks.  Plus, I know I’ll look great in all our vacation photos!

Once you have picked your key pieces packing for your face is the next big task to tackle. No one wants to pack an enormous arsenal of beauty products or spend hours getting ready on vacation, but everyone wants to look great all day every day.  Keeping your makeup bag stocked with a few key products will give you versatility in your looks and while keeping you ready for any fun (or photos!) you may have planned.

We all know that warm weather can cause a foundation meltdown, so grab two amazing products and have amazing skin all day without a worry. Start with Urban Decay De-Slick. De-Slick mists on weightlessly to control oil, deflect surface shine, and keep skin looking beautifully matte.  Then add a BB cream like Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. The creamy, silky formula goes on smooth and blends easily, leaving you with a natural-looking, flawless finish with a broad-spectrum, chemical-free SPF 30 that offers ideal protection from the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays.  It is perfect for vacation or every day wear. To add a bit of color to your cheeks stick to a cheek stain or gel blush. There are a lot of options available and a wonderful high end brand is also by Tarte, Cheek Stain.  If you are looking for a more affordable option try Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush. The key to looking flawless in the heat of summer is keeping things simple and light, so add a bit of your favorite gloss and mascara to your flawless face and enjoy memories with your family.
