It’s so easy to get caught up in everyday life and to overlook the amazing things that your town has to offer.
Most people think that you have to travel to see something new and exciting. But, more often than not, we take for granted the things that our towns have to offer.
It only takes an hour or two to do something new. I encourage you to grab your camera and hit the streets of your own town!
1. Play tourist.
Think to yourself, if someone were visiting your area for the first time, where would you take them? Approach a day in your town the same way you would a city that you visited on vacation. Check out tourist guides, online review sites, and visitor’s centers for hidden gems. Photograph something in your town that you never knew existed.
2. Take a history lesson.
Make a list of monuments, memorials, museums, and historic locations. Photograph the history of your area, while learning more about your city’s past. Look for interesting features that relate to your life in the town that others may overlook.
3. Visit a park.
Pack a picnic lunch, a blanket, and a soccer ball or Frisbee and head to your neighborhood park. Photograph the sunlight filtering through the trees or the way the benches line the pathway.
4. Cruise around.
Jump on your bike and ride it to a local ice cream shop, brewery, or restaurant. Stop to take photographs along the way and while you’re enjoying your yummy treats.
5. Attend an event.
Take in a show, go on a dinner cruise, or go listen to a local band play. Bring your camera along to capture photographs of your date, your friends, the crowd, and the location.
Whether you chose something fun for the whole family, or want to have some quiet time with your camera, these are just a few ideas to get you started and help you to see your area with fresh eyes.
