CMworkshops

Our online photography workshops are at the heart of CMuniversity.  Each month, we work with hundreds of beginning and professional photographers to refine skills, engage in business development, encourage a love of photographic arts, and more.

The quality of our materials and the  genuine interest that instructors take in each student’s growth is unprecedented. Many of our students regard the level of attention that they receive in our workshops as something akin to a four week mentorship with the instructor. Workshop alumni consistently report that they come out of CMworkshops inspired, invigorated, and more confident in their shooting. We also pride ourselves on an extraordinary level of caring, support, encouragement, and community.  In fact, instructors and students alike regularly form new friendships over the course of the four week programs.  If you have already purchased a workshop seat and you are having difficulty accessing the workshop, please follow the instructions on this PDF.

Where are these workshops located?

All of our workshops are online and take place within private forums on the Clickin Moms board.

How does it work?

A PDF lesson will be posted each week in a private forum on clickinmoms.com. You will have one week to post your assignment. You do not need to be online at any specified time. You can download and read the lesson at your leisure for the duration of the course. Workshops typically last four weeks.

Study-along members will have access to all materials and will be able to read the forum, see others’ assignments, but will not be able to post questions, conversation, or request critique on their assignments.

What will I receive as a workshop student?
Full Participation students engage in an interactive online classroom experience that includes instructor-led discussions and detailed, personalized guidance for the duration of the workshop. Full participation students have unlimited access to ask questions and engage in discussion with the workshop instructor and fellow participants within the private workshop forum, receive instructor and TA critiques of the posted assignment each week, and have lifetime access to a Workshop Alumni forum for continued peer discussion after the course concludes.

Study Along students will have access to all materials and will be able to view all content and conversation in the main workshop forum. Study along students also receive access to their own private subforum for discussion, image shares, and feedback from other students. Study along students will not be able to ask the instructor questions or request instructor feedback on their assignments. This offering is designed primarily as an independent or group study option for students who do not seek instructor feedback.

Do I have to be online at any specific time to participate?

No. Lessons are posted weekly, and assignments are typically due by Saturday each week. In general, you can read the lesson, view and participate in discussions, and download any supplementary materials at your leisure during the workshop.

Some 301 level courses suggest daily practice posts, which are still flexible by time of day. The only live component to workshops is the occasional (optional) “Office Hours session,” which is offered as a bonus in a handful of our upper level courses.

What’s the difference between “full participation” and “study along”?

Does every workshop have a “study along” option?

Most, but not all, of our courses have a study along option.  First run courses do not have a study along option to enable us to gather full feedback from the initial run from all students.

Where can I find the workshop schedule?

We list workshops on the CMuniversity calendar as they are scheduled, and that is the best place to check for courses that are scheduled one or more months in advance. The CMuniversity calendar can be viewed here.

We also send out monthly emails with workshop lineups, course descriptions, and registration links. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter on the front page of the CMuniversity website to make sure that you don’t miss a thing!

How quickly do workshops sell out?

More than half of CMuniversity workshops sell out completely, some within less than 24 hours of registration opening. Lifetime Members are given the opportunity to pre-register one week before general registration opens.

Do I have to be a CM member to take a workshop?

No! Lifetime Members have priority registration (one week in advance), but general registration is open equally to Members and Nonmembers. Nonmembers also have standard CM forum access for the duration of their workshop, so it’s a good way to preview our community as well!

Where do I register?

There are buttons that link to registration on the information page for each workshop. Green checks indicate that registration is open. Red Xs indicate that registration is not yet open or that the course has sold out.

Workshops will also appear on the CM Sign Up page (NonMembers Sign Up Page \ Members Sign Up Page) when general registration opens.

I’m all registered! Where do I access the course?

All of our workshops are online and take place within private forums on the Clickin Moms board. Once registered, you should see your workshop forum listed within the main Workshops forum on the Clickin Moms board. It’s the last forum listed.  You can also follow the instructions on this PDF.

I registered but changed my mind (or I have another commitment now). Can I get a refund?

Workshop seats are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Your registration fee is only valid towards the workshop for which you have registered. Please make sure that you have the time and energy to commit to a workshop before signing up. In exigent circumstances such as serious illness of yourself or that of an immediate member of your family, please contact your course instructor.

How long will I have access to the workshop forum?

Forum access typically begins on the Thursday before the workshop officially opens and extends for approximately four weeks after the final assignment is posted. It is each student’s responsibility to download all workshop content and materials that she wishes to keep as a personal copy before the workshop closes.
