This was such an amazing class. I’ve been wanting to learn more about how to take my photography beyond just snapping pictures to something more artistic and this was the perfect course for that. I learned so much about the fundamentals of fine art and how to incorporate them into my daily shooting. Lots of great information and I feel like it has changed me as a photographer. You 100% have to take this course.

  • Julie Mak says:

I took this class over 3 years ago and it is still one of my all-time favorites. Elle is an amazing instructor and her class was transformative for my photography. So many of my favorite images were taken during this class with Elle pushing me. If you want to take your images to the next level, and can keep up with the assignments, you will not be disappointed!

  • Until this workshop, I had the hardest time explaining what “type” of photograher I was when someone asked. I love still-life, landscape, capturing the details of fingers and toes – a little bit of everything! But, the thing I love most is how an image moves me and makes me feel. Elle and her amazing team helped me to look deeper into my images, take more time to be intentional and deliberate in my execution and really strive to create art. I love the emotion I am now finding in my images and I have even added living things to my repertoire! :) I feel like I am not only a photographer, but an artist . . . and that feels like what I’ve wanted to be all along. Obviously, I highly recommend taking this course!

  • This is a class that I will never forget. I cannot stop going over all of the information that was presented that not only helped me to learn more about fine art photography but also about myself. Elle has given me the tools to know what I like in a photograph and a path to take that will make me happy with my art. My classmates, TA’s and AH’s were so supportive and encouraging and it was honestly the best I have ever felt with a group of photographers. Thank you Elle I am forever grateful.

    • Elle Walker says:

Thank you so much, Jacquie!! I loved watching your growth each week, and cannot wait to see where you go from here!!

  • Tracy Swift says:

I had a photography breakthrough while taking this class. I am seeing things differently, making better photographs, and loving my work again after several months of feeling kind of “blah” about it. Elle Walker is a great teacher and the course material was so interesting. I’m so excited about photography again–and this class is definitely the reason!

  • Katy says:

From the moment I joined CM, some 2.5 years ago, FAVE was a stand out class for me … one that I made a mental note to work towards, as a ‘some day’ class. Somehow, I instinctively knew it would be a good fit, and having just completed the most recent run, I can confirm that my instincts were spot on.

I had been feeling a bit blah about my work for some time … you could say a little bored by it, but four weeks with Elle and my class mates have changed that. I have a renewed sense of enthusiasm for shooting, and I’m trusting myself more, rather than second guessing what I’m doing. Where I felt my images were a little static, FAVE has given me the tools to change that … to bring them to life, and to make choices intentionally, with this in mind, long before pressing the shutter.

Elle has put so much into this class. PDFs are packed with information, but not in a way that you feel overwhelmed. I would have happily thrown $300 at the first two weeks alone … so many genres are covered in week two, some of which were completely new to me. I loved the freedom of not shooting human subjects that week, and it had me paying close attention to everything … from the sky above, to the grass at my feet, to everything in between … including mundane, every day details.

Thank you so much, Elle, and the wonderful TA’s for your guidance throughout this class. I have come away feeling inspired, excited about moving forward, and very grateful for the material that I know I am going to be working with for a long time to come.

  • WOW. As other reviewers have stated, this workshop is really transformational. Elle clarifies artful aspects of imagery and gives you wonderful maps to fulfill your intentions more and more deliberately in your work. You can keep exploring what you learn here for as long as you pick up a camera. I highly recommend.

  • Sonia says:

This course did some wonderful things on me! Elle is amazing and the amount of informations she gives us week after week is so inspiring!! The assignments are all great and very fun to do! Elle really helped me become a better photographer trought the course of this workshop, and I am really happy to say that I now know exactly why I am drawn to certain images more than others. I can now put words on what I see in a picture that is so beautiful, and it gives me power to create myself those images that I am so envious of. This is an awesome workshop and I am very grateful for these 4 weeks!

  • Elizabeth O. says:

I just finished FAVE and am coming back here to leave my feedback in case anyone reading this is on the fence about taking this course… Let me try to find the words… I’m not exaggerating when I say that FAVE was transformative. Not only did I learn a lot about Fine Art elements and design, but I began to think past following the “rules” to create a great photo and instead began to think about how to use elements of fine art to infuse my heart and soul into my work. If I could show you some before and afters, I think you’d see a big difference. Before this class I was creating work I really liked, even sometimes photos I loved, but I often had the feeling my photos were “missing something.” You know, that certain “something” that is just so hard to define. After FAVE, I’m more often producing photos that are meeting my artistic vision and it feels great.

  • This workshop was fabulous for me on a number of levels.

The materials were well written and really helpful. They acted as a great reminder of things I know but forget when shooting. The workshop really pushed me to experiment more and push myself. Overall it helped me think more whilst I shoot.

The workshop leader and TAs provided really insightful feedback and there was a really positive feeling in the groups that made me want to shoot.

Elle has a particularly warm and encouraging nature and provided lots of useful links and references.

This was my first CM workshop. It was particularly effective for me over other non- CM workshops because it made me shoot! Sounds obvious but so many workshops don’t do that!

I think what you get out of the workshop will really depend on where you are on your personal journey. I think it is designed very carefully to make sure there is something for everyone though (as long as you are already confident with your camera of course)

For me, this workshop helped me find a connection between my personal and commerical work and took me a huge step closer to the personal style I aspire to achieve. It allowed me to explore ideas and get feedback and gave me plenty of material to really think creatively.

I have come away with a better connection to my work, some images I am absolutely in love with, a renewed confidence that I can achieve the work I want to achieve and a clear view of where I want to take my photography next.

Thank you to Elle and her great team. Cx

This class was nothing short of awesome! So much information, almost too much to fully digest during the course, I know I will be going back over the information several times! I highly recommend @ellewalker as an instructor and this course! Thank you Elle!

  • Amanda says:

I have taken so many CM workshops that I’ve loved, but this one takes the cake. This was worth TWICE what I paid for it. I feel like I have grown emotionally as well as a photographer in this workshop. I’ll be going back through these PDF’s for years to come, I’m sure of it. If you have any doubts in your mind, let me assure you that there is no way you’ll regret taking this class. Elle, you ROCKED it!

  • Meredith Hepburn says:

This class was AMAZING!! It was everything I needed at this point in my photography journey; a push to explore different genres, get out of my comfort zone and be creative. Elle is a wonderful teacher gently guiding and encouraging you along the way. In my opinion this class is a MUST for every photographer that wants to take their photography to the next level.

  • Anne Manning says:

If you’re looking for the best “bust-a-rut” course, FAVE should be at the very top of your list. The amount of ground covered in the first week’s lesson alone could justify an entire course — it’s just outstanding. That, combined with the awesome, personalized support from Elle, the TAs and alumni helpers, make this such a worthwhile investment. The material prompted many ‘aha!’ moments for me and I am so incredibly glad I snagged a seat in the most recent run. Word to the wise, be sure to park yourself in front of your computer hitting the ‘refresh’ button when the next run opens up. It will fill quickly! :hp

  • Jenn says:

LOVED this course. I loved reading through the materials and Elle and the wonderful TA’s give very thoughtful and thorough critique. In addition, you are encouraged to shoot everyday and your weekly group of classmates critique your work as well as alumni helpers. It is awesome! At first I was a little overwhelmed but quickly got into the swing of things and now that it is over, I am sad!! :( Do not hesitate to enroll in this course….

  • Alice says:

Words seriously cannot describe how I feel about this class. It was the very first workshop I’ve taken.. and I actually signed up on a whim. I was a little nervous, because it was a 301 workshop, and I wasn’t sure if I could keep up. I can say with all honesty though that deciding to take FAVE was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

Before I took FAVE, I was stuck in a rut. I had the basics down for the most part and was pretty consistently creating okay photos. Once in a while I would get a few photos that I truly loved. The frequency at which I was getting these was increasing, but not nearly as fast as I would have liked. I was feeling incredibly uninspired, and didn’t know what direction to take next to improve. Enter FAVE!

The first week was a little overwhelming at first because there was just SO MUCH information! I would have taken the class just for the information I got from that pdf. It taught me to be more careful and measured in my shooting and really only pick up my camera if something moved me or if I had a vision I wanted to execute. The other weeks were also fantastic, but it was the first week that truly changed the way I approached photography! Committing to shooting almost every single day forced me to be more creative.. and I could literally see myself improving day by day that week.

If you can swing this FP, I would highly highly suggest it! Elle is amazing and always gets straight to the heart of your photo and what you were trying to capture. She was always able to verbalize exactly what I had been going for in my picture, but often couldn’t explain myself. The TAs – Caroline, Sarah and Stacey – were absolutely amazing as well! Their critique was invaluable in helping me polish my images.. but also in helping me understand my style.

Five weeks later, I have more than 30 photos that I loved enough to put in my portfolio.. Even better, I have a renewed joy in photography and more confidence in my work. I also feel like I’ve been started along the path of finding my style.

  • Holly says:

I’m signed up!! Soooooo excited! <3

  • Already know the basics? Stuck with where to go next? Want to take your images to the next level? Absolutely, hands down, take Elle’s course. The amount of information is so immense I plan to work through the class a few times, on my own, and expect to pick up new information each time I go through. Ever genre is touched on – and inspiration is absolutely strong. This course has made my work come alive in new and subtle ways. Elle’s critique pulls thoughts and feelings out of your image that you may not have thought of. Truly a fantastic course!

  • Lisa says:

As part of my final submission I included this comment:

“…a very thought provoking and intense workshop. I have been very surprised that one of the most significant things I have taken away from this workshop is a more solid confidence in my own shooting instincts. I second guess so many things and that quality translates into my shooting. So instead of just going with my gut, I frequently try to shoot to meet external expectations — whether it is a client, my peers, etc. I know that isn’t a unique phenomena to me, but I guess I didn’t think I’d encounter it or end up exploring it here.”

As Kellie said, this workshop will “change the way you see the world” — and as a result it will change the way you approach photography. There is a great deal of information in this workshop, but it is presented expertly and Elle, the TAs & alumni helpers are excellent as guides on your journey.

  • Kellie says:

This class will change the way you see the world, with or without your camera. Elle’s lessons are thorough and her skill as an instructor is unparalleled. She is gentle and effective in her critique, thoughtful in her responses, and largely available. The material is intense, but as long as you are willing, it has the potential to bring about an equally intense transformation in your photography.

  • Lara Gowder says:

I was so excited to be in the first run of this class! This class is amazing. Just in the first week, so many ah-ah moments for me! I will never look at photography the same way again. Elle is a very detailed instructor with her materials & critique. The TA’s are just as awesome! Wonderful, inspiring class!

  • This was the perfect artistic class to fine tune my portfolio! I was honored to be part of the first run of this course and cannot express how pleased I am with the outcome. My photography has grown tenfold. Elle’s lectures and critical critiques were fantastic. She truly took the time to examine my images in-depth and give a wholehearted review. This is a must take course. You won’t be disappointed.

  • This course was FABULOUS. I was thrilled to be part of the first run, and Elle and the TAs were amazing. I learned so much, and my approach to photography is forever changed.
