Light Seekers 2017

with Shalonda Chaddock, Danielle Awwad, Breanna Peterson, Anna Larson, and Julie Paisley | August 8-26, 2017

BREAKOUT DESCRIPTION

In photography, light is everything. Come along with five photographers as they seek out beautiful light in its many forms: indoors and out, north to south, backlight, low light, soft light, and beyond. Watch as they approach a scene, find the light, and harness its radiance to produce incredible photos.

You’ll go behind the scenes during different times of day to capture the light with Shalonda, Anna, Julie, Breanna, and Danielle.

Explore with them through shooting videos, pullbacks, and light diagrams. You’ll see exactly how each photographer positioned her subject (and herself!) relative to the light to create their magical images. Come along….indoors and out, north to south, midday to blue hour.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

• how five photographers use light at many different times of day– from early morning until dusk
• how to use golden hour light to create magical images
• how to use midday light successfully
• why positioning your subject in the scene really matters
• how to use manipulate scenes with difficult light to create usable light at any time of day

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Shalonda Chaddock is the face and camera behind Chubby Cheek Photography. She is a nationally published child photographer based out of Houston Texas, where she is drowning in glitter and princess dresses with her two daughters and the love of her life. Her shooting style focuses on the magic of childhood and finding the unique sparkle within each child.

Anna Larson is a wife, mother to three and documentary photographer. She creates personal work daily and photographs the stories of others through commissioned work. Her family resides in Olympia, WA. The lush, endless evergreens and grey skies provide plenty of inspiration. Her days are filled with raising children, gardening, cooking and making.

Fascinated by history and photography, and inspired by the organized chaos of raising her three children, Breanna Peterson lives in Kodiak, Alaska, documenting their every day. She sees herself offering her children a tangible piece of history in the form of photographs, and has become quite passionate about doing the same for other families.

Danielle Awwad is a natural light photographer who focuses in the areas of fine art, lifestyle and environmental portraiture. She lives on a large hay farm in Michigan with her husband, three small children and a lot of animals. Danielle is a light seeker and is drawn to all types of natural light. She enjoys documenting her family and their daily adventures of farm living.  When she is not behind the camera you will often find her outdoors, riding her horses or cooking with her children.

Julie Paisley is a wife to her college sweetheart and a mama to two of the coolest kiddos on the planet. She lives in Nashville and is a Hybrid (both film and digital) wedding photographer and mentor and has had the privilege of traveling the world shooting weddings and teaching workshops. Known for her love of light and the ability to capture real emotion, Julie’s work can be described as “dreamy, romantic and real”.

This breakout will not disappoint! I returned to Clickin Moms after a two-year break and man, I sure have been missing out. I have purchased other breakouts in the past, but what makes this one so unique is that it incorporates the work of such incredible artists- some of which have very shooting styles. I love that the behind the scenes videos truly make you feel like you are standing there with the instructors looking around asking yourself “where is the light”? Because when creating a beautiful photo, that’s all that really matters.

  • Courtney Mummert says:

This is my first breakout and I have enjoyed it so much! I am a newbie to manual photography and am self teaching myself everything I can through online courses and trying to absorb it all/ This breakout has given me such a better understanding of light and what to look for. It’s been so beneficial to me and I can’t wait to take advantage of other breakout learning opportunities. You ladies are such an inspiration. Thank you so much!

  • Liz Fraijo says:

This Breakout was my first ever, and it did not disappoint! I have been such a fan of Shalonda’s work, so when I saw this Breakout, I knew I needed to join. But now, NOW I have four more artists to oooh and ahhh over. The videos are amazing. The images are breathtaking. This is the BEST!

  • Chelle Cates says:

This is an amazing breakout! New things everyone should learn! Incredible instructors full of information! A Must have on your dashboard!

  • Libby G says:

This breakout is a must have. The presenters explain shooting in all types of light beyond the typical golden hour shoot including low light and bright light. It has a lot of “real life” type shooting scenarios, which for me, is more interesting to learn about. Also, they’ve added some editing modules, camera settings, and a food photography module as bonuses to the forum. Go get Lightseekers II if you haven’t already!!

  • Kristin McElroy says:

This was such an informative breakout! All the material was presented perfectly and I really found the pullbacks and videos to be very helpful and full of great information and tips!

  • Susan Luckie says:

I’m so thankful I got to take this course! I learned so much from each photographer. The use of different forms of media (forum, videos, photos) was so helpful to reinforce concepts and to help you really apply what you learned! Such a great price to be taught by such talented photographers as well as teachers! Thank you all!

  • The LIghtseekers Volume 2 was my first introduction to Clickin Moms. I’ve so enjoyed everything. The videos are amazing. So may wonderful suggestions. I’ve been a pretty much “find some shade and take a pic” person for portraits. This Breakaway has made me open my eyes to looking for the light and see where it is coming from. I’ve learned so much. The .pdf file is awesome. So many suggestions and the photos are amazing examples. Being able to download all videos and the .pdf file are such a plus. I love that I can refer back to everything for years to come. The presenters were soooo good. It was such a nice variety of natural light shooters and was nice to be able to see different ladies showing how they use the light to get such great photos. Thanks so much!

An amazing breakout for sure!

This breakout shows so many inspiring ways to use light! I loved the variety that you get with having so many different contributors. The gorgeous images with pull-backs and videos for each are so helpful for understanding how to approach each type of light. It is easy to learn from this simple direct approach. All of the teachers are just amazing and I enjoyed seeing how each one approaches their work. I know they have put their hearts into this breakout.

This breakout has been very enjoyable! I loved the first light seekers breakout and was not sure how much I would benefit from this one. I’m really happy to say that they compliment each other very well. I do not find the material to be repetitive, the photographers are very talented and enjoyable to learn from

  • Beth says:

This breakout is wonderful! Although my understanding of light is pretty solid… I decided to purchase this breakout, because I believe in and also admire every one of the teachers. I was not disappointed by the talent, the infortmation, and the kindness provided by every one of said teachers. Buy this if you are struggling with your knowledge of light. You will not be disappointed. <3

  • Denise says:

This breakout has been awesome. Light is the hardest thing to learn and these fine ladies make it easy to understand. Highly recommend this breakout.

  • Kayla says:

I love the differences between these 5 photographers and how they capture the magic of light. Lots of good info in here. You get to see a little piece of the magic.

  • Angela Grace says:

These presenters have done a beautiful job. I almost passed this breakout by because I bought the previous Light Seeker BO and wasn’t sure how much I would get out of it. I am so happy I went ahead with volume 2 anyway!. I am loving this BO presented by five different artist with very different styles from each other and the volume 1 presenters. The PDF is beautiful and the accompanying videos are well done and full of information. Only a couple days in and these artists are obviously excited about their subject and generous with their time. The fun thing about such passionate instructors is that the students have just as much fun. The involvement from the BO members is huge and seeing every ones images has been a blast. I would definitely get this one live if you can swing it!

  • Jess Maher says:

I’m SO GLAD I signed up for this breakout! Incredible, insightful information on how these ladies approach photography and the role light plays in creating beautiful images. I have learned so much and I’m viewing photography in a whole new light (literally)! It’s been hugely beneficial to build an understanding on the basics with different types of lighting situations (what they are and how they impact how you shoot, tips for capitalizing on the light etc). I love that we’re getting access to five unique perspectives, all extremely talented but with varied styles and preferences. This is the first breakout I’ve participated in and I wasn’t sure what to expect from a time commitment standpoint. It was super manageable and I soaked up the content in just a day! I highly recommend! So worth the $50 investment.

  • Amanda says:

When I saw the advert for Light Seekers Volume 2, I was beyond excited! I am in the process of moving house and still signed up right away to be apart of the Breakout! AND ….I am so glad I did! The videos are direct and to the point which is very helpful. For me being a visual learner, watching where to stand, what angle to light from, and which way to turn your client is invaluable information. The women truly make you feel like they are speaking to you as a friend and giving you tips over coffee. Also the diagrams about how to tackle certain light in different ways helps you see how light behaves. This information can help you on your journey towards finding your creative voice because once you know how light behaves you can make it work for you and achieve the shoots you dream of. I would recommend this course anyone! And for the price point for this wealth of knowledge, it can not be beat!

  • What an amazing breakout! SO much great information about shooting in a lot of different types of light! I’ll definitely be watching the videos a few times and rereading the material. A lot of hard work was put into this breakout! A big you to all the teachers!

  • Danielle Adkins says:

I have been looking forward to this breakout, and it was all I dreamed it would be!!! Such amazing artists to learn from, all with such a unique eye for light! So much information to help create the images you see and love. The artists and their behind the scenes videos really help you understand light and how to achieve different types of images. I am only half way through and I more than got my moneys worth. You seriously don’t want to miss this one!

  • Heidi Elbe says:

The breakout is very helpful in finding and using light. The videos are very inspiring and explain how the light is used. The images captured are wonderful.

  • Tammi says:

I’m loving this breakout. There is so much good information packed into it, and each teacher has such good information to share. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning more about light.

  • Meg Loeks says:

This breakout is incredible! There’s so much information. I just started diving into the materials and I’m blown away by the gorgeous imagery, insightful shooting videos and in-depth information. It will push you to be creative and use all types of light. It’s one of the best breakouts I’ve ever taken, not to mention how supportive the instructors are. It’s definitely an investment!

  • Jen Paskey says:

I am loving this breakout. I always struggle with light, it just hasn’t clicked for me. I love to watch the videos and see everyone in action. All the photographers put so much effort into their videos and showing all kinds of lighting scenarios. I haven’t been able to watch them all but it is so exciting to know I still have more to watch. This is well worth the money for sure!!!

  • What’s not to love?? Shalonda and Julie??! My two heroes in the world of photography?? of course i would buy this just because it was one more time i can soak in all their genius… but as far as the course itself. it was great, alot of fun and i haven’t even had a chance to go through every video, and there is alot of information. Amazing tutorials, you will want to add this to your learning ASAP!

  • Angeles Perisse says:

I highly recommend this breakout. I started watching the videos and I can’t stop. Not only I’m learning how to use light in a better way I also learning from this amazing photographer how they interact with the models and use different scenarios! Is so inspiring. The PDF has a lot of information. You will love it! The best investment for my photography.

  • This breakout is just what I needed to inspire my work and pull me out of a rut. These presenters give so much great information on lighting in all different scenarios. They include both diagrams and videos of live shoots with the final product to give the full representation of how the light was used. This breakout has encouraged me in how to use light to enhance my photos and add drama and life- it’s an excellent investment!

  • This is, by far, one of the best breakouts I have taken! These artists hold nothing back. I have been shooting for years and I still learned so many specific and useful things about light in every possible scenario. You will learn about the best shooting angles for different types of light, how to utilize your surroundings to help get the light you want, and so much more! If you are on the fence about this, trust me, you NEED it! Thank you, ladies, for opening up and sharing how you find and use light!

  • Jennie W says:

I’ve been eagerly anticipating this break out and it did not disappoint!!! The PDF is packed with gorgeous imagery that I could totally get lost in. But it’s not just inspirational images – each teacher shows a light diagram and pull backs and SOOC, as well as final images, so you can understand exactly how they created their amazing images. ALL kinds of light are covered, garage light, harsh light, backlight, full sun, dappled – it was SO informative.

I loved how each presenter had a different style; it was so inspiring and encouraging to see how light is used in vastly different genres, editing styles, and story telling images to produce the final impact. I loved the videos that gave behind-the-scenes glimpse into how the photographers shoot.

And speaking of the photographers – these ladies are awesome teachers. I’m a HUGE Chubby Cheek Photography fan, so if I”m honest I probably bought it most to see Shalonda’s work. And, of course, it was perfection. I loved seeing never-shared images in a more lifestyle genre and seeing how she shoots in harsh light and made garage light look like some fabulous, million dollar studio! But I also really loved the other teachers as well. I hadn’t really seen much of Danielle Awwad’s work before and holy moly! I’m now a raving fan!

For yummy light, drool-worthy images, and amazing tutorials that help you learn how to do it to – don’t miss this one! :)
