shooting 101: the best darn beginner course ever
“The Basics” is a four week online workshop designed for photographers who want to leave the automatic settings behind them or those who are shooting in manual and aren’t getting the consistent results they want with manual mode. We concentrate on the exposure triangle, proper metering for good skin tones, which metering modes to use and when, white balance, finding good light, getting creative, and beginning composition.
processing 101: photoshop fundamentals for photographers
Get ready to take your photos to a new level using Photoshop and all the tools it has to offer. You will be amazed at how simple adjustments can take your photo from “good” to “WOW.” You will be up and running with an efficient workflow by the end of the workshop . You will be able to open your photo, read your histogram, identify color casts, fix white balance, adjust exposure & skintones and so much more!

In this week long breakout session, Kate Parker shows you the way to get amazing, beautiful, dramatic images no matter what the location, subjects, lighting may be. The breakout highlights what Kate has learned her first two years as a professional. Sections include “Mistakes I’ve Made” or “How NOT TO do this,” a video of Kate editing, a step by step of her workflow, as well as how she shoots, use of dramatic light, what she brings, and how she gets the shots she wants. Personal projects are also highlighted along with what Kate has learned of the fine art photography world.

shooting 201: beyond the basics
“Beyond the Basics” is a four week online workshop for photographers who have mastered and feel comfortable shooting in manual mode. The class pushes you to search for more creative, interesting shots through the use of light, composition and paying attention to details. We also discuss shooting in raw and raw processing in Lightroom, which can be applied to ACR and Aperture.
shooting 201: mastering natural light indoors
This course will empower photographers who have a solid grasp of working with their cameras in manual mode to learn how to see and utilize indoor light. It will give participants the ability to become comfortable working with available light indoors and enable them to make lighting choices that best support their artistic vision.

shooting 101: posed for success
Learn to pose a variety of subjects in this course, which covers the fundamentals of posing, working with toddlers and teenagers, posing men and women, and working with families and large groups. We will discuss many different types of posing situations, why they work, and why they may not. At the end of every week, watch a video of Lora working with her own subjects, learn how she maneuvers in the field, and see her transition from one pose to the next.
shooting 101: first steps with a dslr
This course will help beginning photographers move beyond auto mode and get the most out of their DSLRs. Students will learn basic concepts of composition and how to use natural light to their advantage. Students will transition from point-and-click shooting to shooting in semi-automatic modes and being a mindful photographer. Topics such as interacting with subjects, capturing details, storytelling, and gaining inspiration will be covered in a patient and supportive environment.
lighting 101: studio lighting for beginners
This introductory studio class will start from the ground up as participants will learn how to position their lights and take a handheld meter reading. We will learn about how to use light ratios and various lighting styles to create portraits to flatter our subject. Accent lights such as background lights and hairlights will also be taught. Detailed lighting diagrams and sample photos will be shared to help participants create stunning images, including Jes’s recipe for perfect high key every time.
