This beginner level class focuses on how to create a basic WordPress blog and portfolio. In 3 weeks, we will intensively cover every aspect of how to design and build a gorgeous, user-friendly website from scratch. Students will first learn how to create a cohesive brand, decide on a business name, pick the best URL(s), choose a vendor and understand overall goals for your website. We will discuss the psychology of color as it relates to your brand and create a website design using signature tones that best fit your style. Instruction will be given on how to make a simple text logo and header, choose the most appropriate fonts, and design a site structure that is both effective and SEO friendly. You will learn how to easily navigate your dashboard, make CSS customizations, create and order new parent and sub pages, establish and format a portfolio gallery, enter content for blog posts and design a contact form for inbound linking. This course is ideal for any photographer who is looking to start a brand new blog and website or simply needs a more in-depth understanding of how to use WordPress.

this course has prerequisites
Photographers will need a software design program (Photoshop Elements or CS6 recommended). There will be additional expenses (outside of the CM tuition) related to your URL/domain registration, hosting, WordPress themes and selecting a vendor (Creative Motion Design, ProPhoto, etc.) if you choose to do so. Average costs range from $50-$300. We will discuss these options in detail during Week 1.
