“Beyond the Basics” is a four week online workshop for photographers who have mastered and feel comfortable shooting in manual mode. The class pushes you to search for more creative, interesting shots through the use of light, composition and paying attention to details. We also discuss shooting in raw and raw processing in Lightroom, which can be applied to ACR and Aperture.

Study-along members will have access to all materials and will be able to read the forum, see others’ assignments, but will not be able to post questions, conversation, or request critique on their assignments. Full Participation students will be able to do all of the above.

Orlando native Lynne Rigby is a self-taught photographer with a formal background in education. She specializes in beach and lifestyle photography. Lynne is the mom to five kids and is married to her high school sweetheart.
This is a fantastic class, and I’m very sorry to see it end. It was my first CM class, but it certainly won’t be my last! I learned so much in just a few short weeks and my photography skills have improved by leaps and bounds! My advice to future participants would be to try to get yourself a full-participation spot. I personally enjoyed having to be accountable with my assignments and giving CC to fellow classmates, and FP gave me that edge. I loved the interaction between participants, and of course, the feedback from Lynne and her TAs. Great class!
Wow- this was my first CM workshop, so I really had no idea what to expect. My experience as an SA in this course was absolutely amazing! My only regret was not signing up earlier so that I could do it FP. Lynne has done such a wonderful job of putting together her PDFs and videos. They are so clear and organized, with so much visual inspiration. They are full of useful information that I know I will come back to again and again. The great thing about this workshop is it gives you the information on how to do something, then you have assignments to push yourself to get out there and put your knowledge into practice. I attempted shots I never would have tried if it weren’t for this class, and that’s the best way to learn and grow, isn’t it? By pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Others have joked about being a “Lynne Groupie”- now I totally get it! I’m also currently taking Shooting 101, and just signed up for Lightroom 101 as well. She is amazing!
I took shots that I had never attempted before in this course which I LOVED! I learned a lot and loved the CC I received on my photos. I don’t have Lightroom and I used ACR and was able to transfer the info that she taught about Lightroom to ACR. I highly recommend this course!
Another great CM workshop! It pushed me to not only get out and shoot, but also to be more creative. I learned so much — full sun, haze, silhouettes and more. Thanks to Lynne and her team of instructors for providing such great lessons and feedback!

Wow what a great workshop! Packed full of information and such a great variety of stuff too!! I learnt loads and loved every minute! Each week was so different and I enjoy each and everyone of them!! :)
Like everyone else, I loved this workshop! I took pictures in light and situations that always intimitated me, and ended up with shots that I love. It pushed me creatively and I felt like every week took me on new photography adventures. I knew Lynne is a fabulous teacher from 101, and her creative, comprehensive, and supportive teaching style was phenomenal once again!
Where do I begin? Lynne is AH-mazing! Her skills and images are what awesome sauce is made of! This class was so much FUN to take! Lynne is an incredible instructor and super sweet…I am definitely going to miss getting to “see” her weekly in the forum.
You will not regret taking the class. With Lynne’s guidance and learning materials,the teaching assistants, and your classmates CC’s, your knowledge and growth in photography will grow leaps and bounds!
This was the best spent money I have ever spent on anything photography related! I cannot speak enough about it.. the class, the videos, the lessons, lynn’s CC.. everything is just awesome! Do not think twice about taking this class! I had so much fun and learnt so much!! Thank you to Lynn, the teaching assistants and my classmates for the best month ever!
This class was just what I needed to feel motivated again. Lynne’s teaching materials are very easy to understand and her assignments really pushed me to work hard. It felt so good to plan a shoot, follow through with it, and then share my work with the class. This class really pushed me to get out there and shoot again.
Admittedly, I’ve become a Lynne Groupie. But that’s because she’s simply fantastic. After taking Shooting 101, I knew that I HAD to continue on to 201. I learned so much about the technical side of what I was doing, and I knew that this class would really challenged my creativity. It was exactly the push I needed. As always, Lynne breaks everything down so well, and describes everything perfectly. Her videos are wonderful, and her feedback is so valuable. In addition, taking this class full participation allowed me feedback on my work from additional mentors and my classmates which was also so helpful. I can’t say enough about Lynne’s classes. This was my third, and if she taught another, I’d be signed up. She has motivated me, pushed me, challenged me, and helped me grow. Take this class, I promise you will not regret it!!
I went from 101 to 201 with Lynne.I was in aperture and now I edit in Lightoom.I was super nervous about the whole LIGHTROOM issues….But I got there with Lynne and some reading.So if you are afraid of lightroom before starting the course, download the free trail and DO The COURSE.201 is fantastic I learned a lot and LYNNE is such an amazing fun fun teacher I love her class and doing the assignments every week and getting her feedback! So if you can do full participation go for it.You will love 201. I will have one more month will Lynne at LR 101….!
If you’re on the fence about full participation vs SA or if it’s even worth taking at all, I’m here to give you my thoughts…
It wasn’t easy swinging the $300… i’ve made a lot of sacrifices to make it work, but for me that’s what made it so worthwhile. I went in with the intention to absorb everything i possibly could. I had very high expectations of myself and the course, and I was pleasantly surprised with BOTH! I challenged myself in ways I hadn’t in a long time because I knew there was a price tag as well as a time limit. I’m the type of person who is self motivating to a certain degree, so the extra “push” was exactly what I needed. I’ve gotten to a level with photography on my own — self taught manual & self taught LR. I knew there were things I needed help with, but I had no clue how to find out what I needed help with. This class answered that. At no point was I overwhelmed, but every single day, I was challenged! I enjoyed making new friends and growing with them throughout the 4 weeks. I also felt a special connection with Lynne, Lisa and Monica. I’m already planning my next class and I cannot wait to sign up!
So, if you’re reading this, I imagine you’re looking for a little “push” like I was… my only advice though: when you DO sign up… participate!!!! Make it worth the money you’re spending and really try!! :) HAVE FUN!!

I’ve taken Shooting 101 as a Study Along, 201 as Full Participation, and I’m now taking LR 101, too!
If you can swing the full participation, I would highly highly recommend it. The feedback you get from Lynne, her assistants, and your fellow classmates is so helpful! You will notice things that never bothered you before. (Trust me.) And, you’ll wish you could reshoot and reedit everything on your hard drive.. ;)
All the lessons are very informative, and the videos just help everything click. I feel like I’m finally starting to find my style, and I’m now getting much better at reading the light, and being able to automatically choose the correct settings… even though I’ve been “shooting in manual’ for years.
So what are you waiting for? Go register. You won’t regret it. :)
This class is amazing! I am a bit of a Lynne stalker and took both Shooting 101 and LR 101 as study-along, and finally took 201 as a full participant. Lynne is an amazing teacher and has a gift of making things easy to understand. I truly appreciate all the feedback I got from Lynne, the other admins, and my classmates. It has taught me to be more thoughtful in my photography, both from the lessons and from learning to critique others. I learned a lot from all of these classes, but I can’t say enough about what a difference there is between being a study-along versus a full participant. If you are thinking about it, stop thinking and do it! If you can swing it, full participation is the way to go. I am a beginner and not quite ready for 301 yet, but I look forward to another class with Lynne in the future!

I was most impressed by all of the material, the feedback, and especially your individual attention (from you and your assistants). I can’t wait for my next adventure with you.
It’s easy to become a Lynne Rigby groupie after taking even one of her classes. Take Shooting 201 and you may as well consider everything else chopped liver. Every week had something new to embrace; light, shadows, a foray into Lightroom, becoming aware of ‘your voice’. I haven’t had this much fun, or this much support from Lynne and the other class members, in forever. Thank you Lynne, for teaching me to think and dream in pixels.
This workshop is wonderful! This is my second workshop with Lynne & I can’t wait to take another! I was in such a photography rut & Lynn’s class has opened up a whole new way of shooting to me. This workshop is amazing! This is the second course I have taken with Lynne, and I can’t wait to take another! Lynne is a great teacher. Her materials are very well developed, clear and easy to understand. The use of both the written lesson and the videos really helped convey the content each week. Lynne provides constructive feedback and always has suggestions on how to improve upon our photographs. The dynamic nature of the CM Forums adds to the learning experience through peer feedback and sharing of experiences. I am so glad that I have had the opportunity to rock my camera with Lynne’s help! This class was a dream. Four weeks of different creative outlets that push your technical camera skills and LR editing technique — such a fantastic comprehensive curriculum. Only downsides are: that it is only 4 weeks and that you will want to go back and fix just about every photo you have ever taken when you realize the possibilities you were missing before!
Feedback from others in the class was great, but i must say that Lynne is perfectly amazing. She is so talented. Best part is that she breaks her recommendations and lessons down so that it is soooo easy to understand. How she does what she does with 4 kids is beyond me. She is so attentive, responsive, positive and inspiring. OK, so maybe i have a crush on her she is so great!! Worth every penny.
I have become a Lynne addict in recent months, having completed Shooting 101, Lightroom 101 and now (almost) Shooting 201. Lynne is a wonderful teacher – her class materials are clear and accessible and her feedback, as well as that of the mentors and other class participants, is supportive and constructive. Importantly, the feedback process is not all about platitudes, though the forum’s environment is invariably very kind and has been a big confidence booster for this newbie as I start to find my photographic “voice.” Lynne’s101 courses gave me a much better understanding of the technical side of shooting and editing – I highly recommend taking them first – and 201 gave me the opportunity to put those skills to use in a more complex fashion. Even more notably, I believe this course has truly helped me become a more thoughtful photographer in terms of composition, awareness of light and my environment in general. Thanks again, Lynne!
Fabulous workshop! I learnt to think before I shoot and was pushed to try new things to develop technically and creatively. The information was presented clearly, the assignments were challenging and Lynne is just an amazing teacher! Her feedback was invaluable in helping me grow as a photographer and I cannot recommend this class enough!
This was such a confidence- and skill-boosting class! The assignments really made me think more purposefully about what i want to achieve when shooting and i loved the results. The critique was thoughtful and thorough (both from Lynne and the other admins) and i also loved the CC from the other participants. It was a really supportive environment in which to learn and grow. I wouldn’t hesitate to encourage others to take this class – it’s AWESOME! Thank you so much for this class Lynne – you challenged me and helped me grow as a photographer. It was worth every penny!
I cannot express how grateful I am to Lynne and my classmates for helping me grow sooo much in this class. The videos and instruction are amazing and I cannot believe the change in my photography over the last few weeks! I barely used LR before this class. I never liked my edited images from it. Now I go there before PSE and thats saying something for me! Thanks Lynne! See you in LR 101!
Great class. Lots of great information. I took the class as a study along and I really would recommend taking the full class if you can get registered in time. When I registered the full class participation seats were filled up. However, I am grateful that I was able to participate as a study along and see all of the wonderful feedback that everyone received and review the questions they asked.
Shooting 201 is superb! I was impressed with both the delivery of this workshop as well as the content. Lynne is a fabulous teacher, and created a workshop atmosphere that encouraged self confidence, creativity and high expectations. I know that the knowledge I took away from this workshop is essential to becoming a better photographer, and will continue to reflect on the content. If you are considering this class, I wouldn’t hesitate, you’ll be amazed, and will most definitely grow as a photographer!
I just wanted to drop by and say how much i LOVED this class! It pushed me so much in creativity! I also feel like I know my way around Lightroom MUCH better now, and I wasn’t expecting that from the class so that was an added bonus. Lynne’s CC is awesome and pushed me to try harder each week so she would be as excited about my assignment as I was. Bottom line: I’m so glad I took this class, I needed it more than I realized when I signed up. The class has only been over a week, and I am having serious withdrawls!
I didn’t think I could love a class as much as I loved (the formerly known) RYC 101. I.Was.Wrong. Lynne’s print and video lessons, along with her and the mentors’ detailed and encouraging feedback, and the fabulously supportive classmate community made Shooting 201 nothing short of UHHH-MAZING. In the 4 long weeks, yet an insanely short month, my current level was transformed. I was shooting comfortably in manual and I was reading the board and I was tinkering, but I wasn’t moving forward. This course gave me a new depth, and I’m ever grateful for this experience.
This class was absolutely amazing. It was exactly what I was looking for in terms of figuring out some editing and composition things. And it came at exactly the right time, I was feeling less than motivated with my camera and this class made me so excited about photography again. Thank you, thank you, thank you Lynne!! She is the best, she’s an amazing teacher and explains things in a way that you can understand. If you’re thinking about taking this class, DO IT! You won’t regret it.
I really enjoyed this class! It pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me look at my photography in a new way. Lynne’s lessons were thorough, and her videos were a great accompaniment each week. Because I did Full Participation, I loved the critiques that Lynne and her assistants provided throughout the four-week class. Plus, the feedback from other class members was really helpful! I’d recommend this class to anyone who knows manual pretty well, but is looking to improve their photography in various situations like night, backlighting and non-traditional portraits. I’m sad to see this class end!!
This is such an amazing class! I am so thankful that I took this course! I did the study-along and still learned a tremendous amount. I can’t begin to say enough fabulous things about Lynne. She is a wonderful instructor and always went the extra mile to make sure questions were answered! I’m a visual learner and I loved the fact that she included videos with the lessons. I am now signed up for two more classes with Lynn and I’m very excited it’s FP!! :)
This course has been an invaluable experience! The multi-faceted CC that you will receive from Lynne, the supporting mentors and all of your classmates is outstanding. Each week’s lesson is simple, straightforward and supported with both visual examples and videos Lynne has prepared to walk you through each process from start to finish. Brilliant! Bottom line: it’s an extremely well-rounded course designed to push you out of your typical comfort zone – regardless of what that might be – and challenge you to become a better photographer.
I can’t speak any more highly of this course. It was inspirational and pushed me out of my comfort zone. It taught me how to take those photos I love but never knew how to take. And along the way you learn about Lightroom, something I had never used before. Lynne, is fantastic and along with the support and feedback of the other participants you can almost see yourself and the others grow. There are some wonderful photographers out there. I will definitely be taking more courses.
If you want to become a better photographer and expand your horizons, take this course!!! Lynne guides you with great instruction and challenges you beyond belief. She gives you helpful, specific feedback to lead you towards improving your skills. You will learn so much! You will also get the benefit of fabulous classmates who will support, encourage, and lovingly admonish your work. This was a fantastic course with an amazing instructor. Lynne provides you with detailed written lessons and videos that further explain the concepts presented. It was Shooting 201 that hooked me on Lightroom, and for that I am forever grateful! If you are comfortable with your camera on manual settings, but looking to step up your game and learn a great foundation for processing in LR, this is the course for you!
This is the first of three classes that I have taken with Lynne Rigby and I will tell you that SHE IS AN AMAZING TEACHER!!! This class was the most beneficial class to me at the stage I am in my photography. This is the best more-advanced class for learning more about photography and shooting in manual that I have ever found. I have shot in manual for years, but truly did not understand it as thoroughly as I do now after completing this class. Lynne is an amazing teacher and her pdf files are amazing along with each video. The part that I enjoyed the most was being able to receive cc on each of my photos, that is the best way to learn for me and I did learn so very much in this class. Thank you, Lynne, and each of the other administrators who helped with this class…you are all amazing!!! You will be so very satisfied if you decide to give yourself the gift of this class…IT IS AMAZING!!!!
I love Lynne more and more with each workshop I take from her! If you want to take your photos to the next level and have a good handle on manual mode this class is a MUST!!! I didn’t know ANYTHING about editing. I had PSE but only knew how to run actions. After I downloaded Lightroom and Lynne gave us tips each week I had a whole new appreciation for post processing!! She really encourages you to step up your photos!! I love not only learning more about photography but also the basics of processing in Lightroom. I am now IN LOVE with Lightroom and I know it is all thanks to Lynne! I promise you will not regret taking this class!!! Some of my favorite photos are ones I took for this workshop!!!
So Ya think you can handle it??? Oh yes you can :) Lynne is Fab. She is so thorough, respectful and the best cheerleader there is. She will instill confidence and knowledge to the point of bursting. I truly learned a TONNE from this lady & her fabulous teaching styles. Her self made video tutorials ROCK and you will always have those to refer back on. I just can’t say enough. You NEED to take this course, it will change your life..Amen :)
I ran… RAN from 101 directly into 201 are Lynne helped me feel more confident in my abilities. Lynne’s classes are so organized and she is a patient teacher. She is always available for a question and an extra video if needed. This class really helps solidify the lessons learned in 101 and helps you to start thinking outside of the box and to push yourself. Under Lynne’s careful guidance you will grow by leaps and bounds in your photography skills AND learn some killer LR basics too!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lynne or her classes. Quite simply- she ROCKS!
Everything about this class is AMAZING! The materials, the videos, the assignments, the feedback and Lynne ROCKS!!! It’s not only about mastering the basics… this class will take you out of your comfort zone, it will challenge you to shoot in different conditions, even your everyday pictures will look incredible! And you will learn how to process those great shots in Lightroom. I feel like my bag of knowledge grew a lot with this class, I feel much more comfortable with my photography and my editing skills. If you want to REALLY improve your photography, this class is a MUST!
This was an AMAZING class that opened up a whole new level of skills for me, from working in difficult lighting situations and inspiration with composition and creativity, to processing tips and tricks. Lynne is an infinitely patient, supportive and informative teacher who was willing to go the extra mile to help every student. Every lesson had both written and video components and her critiques were thorough and helpful. She also had a fabulous Q & A section that she always answered promptly whenever we had any questions. I couldn’t have asked for more in a class, except that I wish it were longer. CM continues to impress me with the high level of course work, teachers and fellow students. I can’t wait for my next CM class, and I know I will seek out a course by Lynne again.
Even as a silent participant, I learned so much from Lynne in this workshop. I have learned to be more thoughtful in my photo taking and also how to enhance my now-improved photos with Lightroom tools. I had never done any post processing, and what a difference it can make. Lynne armed me with some amazing tools on which I can now practice in my obsessive daily photographing. I’ve gotten past my the slump I was in and am now enthusiastic and reenergized thanks to the new skills I learned in this class. Lynne rocks as an instructor and has given me renewed confidence in my abilities. This workshop is a must in the CMU curriculum!
i could not imagine that i would ever understand my camera and the world through my lens as well as i do after taking lynne’s class. i feel like i have such a great set of tools to use when taking photos and when using lightroom. the videos that she posts with each week are amazing…perfect for a visual learner like me! the lessons each week are fun, interesting and challenging and lynne is always there to answer all of our crazy questions. i’m so sad the class is over…i wish i could take it again!
This course is the BEST!!! Lynne is not only an amazingly talented photographer, but she also has a natural teaching ability that ensures all skill levels and learning styles are catered for. The videos and feedback you receive are invaluable, and there is a great balance of both camera and processing skills covered. Truly a worthwhile investment…
What a WONDERFUL course and what a SUPERB teacher!! I took RYC 101 and knew I had to take RYC 201. I am going to miss the class. I learned so much. I am doing things I never thought I would be able to do –not yet wiht enough consistency, but practice, practice, practice. I would wait up till after midnight just to get the next great lesson. The lessons are very clear and the explanations of how to do things, both written and video, were excellent. Lynne was the greatest with getting answers to our questions even when she had to deal with preparing more videos during our class. I am going to miss this amazing teach!! I am so glad Lynne shares her knowledge and vision with so many of us trying to better our photography skills. Thanks, Lynne!
This was an amazing course!!! It was the perfect follow-up to RYC 101. Now that I understand how to shoot in manual, this class really got me to explore other aspects of photography and to practice taking more creative photographs. There are detailed lessons, videos and feedback in order to really illustrate the concept. I love how this class covered some natural light, minimal light and lightroom!!! I was searching for light indoors and outdoors everyday for the entire workshop. Lynne, as so many have already said, is such an amazing teacher. I love her perspective of photography and her willingness to share her love of photography with so many!
Thinking about taking this workshop? Well stop thinking and run, don’t walk, to registration! This is by far the best money I have spent during my journey to become a better photographer. Lynne is an amazing (and very patient) teacher and the knowledge that you gain through the lessons and videos is well worth the money. If I weren’t having surgery next week, I would most definitely sign up for another CM Workshop this month! I am sad to see this workshop come to an end, but I am so happy to have found new friends with my classmates.

This workshop was the push I needed to help me step out of the box. It helped me look at things from a different perspective and how to capture things I normally wouldn’t stop and think twice about.
