‘What is my style?’ I see this question posted weekly on the forum. If you have ever wondered about style, this is the workshop you need to take. This workshop gives you practical ways that you can start to discover who you are as an artist. Looking at your environment, your shooting style, your preferences in processing, your ultimate goals, your audience, as well as the photography masters that you admire, you will complete this workshop with a better idea of who you are and where you are going on your photographic journey!
I am a huge fan of CM workshops and highly recommend them to everyone, beginner or pro. This was a workshop that I was on the fence about taking (Fall 2012 session) because I thought I had a good handle on my style; however I was burned out. I had not picked up my camera in weeks. I had not been inspired in months. As always, CM pushed me. The mentors and Lynne encouraged me and, sure enough, I was producing images that I know I would not have been doing had I not taken the class.
This class also offers several opportunities to view your work through your classmates’ eyes. There are portfolio reviews by peers which are time intensive (so make sure you have the time to give!) and invaluable to your progress. The reviews truly help you to step outside of yourself and see your images the way others might see them. You needn’t be concerned about the review process because it is done in such an encouraging environment that you can do nothing but grow!
I will also note that this is a workshop where you are encouraged to be yourself. You are not expected to fit into a mold. If you like color, shoot color. Are you a BW gal? Go for it! Is your style happy, moody, contrasty, Lensbaby, film? It is all ok. This workshop gives you the opportunity to do what you love and watch others shooting the way they love.
Hats off to CM for producing yet another top notch workshop! And thanks to Lynne and the mentors for their time and effort in helping us to find our styles!
