I booked a mentoring/critique session with Ashley at the beginning of the year. I was at a point in my photography journey where I really craved the advice of photographers that I admired and wanted a constructive critique. Ashley was very helpful and took time prior to the critique to review my online portfolio (website and blog). She was able to to tell me where and how to improve my weaknesses as well as how my website appeared to an outsider (the way it was laid out, etc). What I really found great about the critique is that it followed along the same lines as the critiques I had in art school… she started with a positive, we got into the weakness and ended on a positive. I think that critiques are an integral part of a photographer’s journey and without them we run the chance of staying stagnant. At the same time, I also believe that a critique should be uplifting as well and inspire you to do more and better work, not discourage you from working toward your goals. I highly recommend a critique or mentoring session with Ashley if you are wanting to continue to grow in your art.
