Personal Photo Project: dates with my kids

This year I started a personal photography project called “Dates with my Kids.” I have monthly dates with each of my three kiddos and photograph our experiences. At the end of the year, I will create a photo book for each of them. Our dates are often simple, usually a coffee shop, building a Lego kit, even grocery shopping or a movie at home.(…)

Fisherman photo essay by Vironica Golden

Personal Photo Project: fishermen

In Newport Beach, California there’s no better place to buy fresh seafood than directly from the fishermen. In 1891, a local fisherman grew tired of selling his fish to wholesalers and founded Dory Fleet Fish Market, where fishermen could sell directly to the public. Not long after I moved to Newport Beach a friend of mine told me about it and being a seafood lover I shortly became a regular. Today many of the fishermen have switched from dory boats to commercial boats, which are required to dock at the nearby Newport and Huntington Harbor. Now, just one boat keeps the Dory Fleet Market tradition alive. I really wanted to document the dory boat tradition so I decided to do a photo essay on the routine of fishermen that sell their fish at the Dory Fleet Market.(…)

17 photos that bring us joy: the word project

2014 has seen a wonderful start to the CMteam Word Project, with almost a years worth of images and words. Each month, the CMteam are given a single word and asked to interpret it through individual images.

This month, to represent the festive season, the word Joy was chosen. It’s particularly poignant to end this years project with such a word, and it perfectly sums up what this project has meant to everyone who has participated.

The CMteam look forward to continuing the Word Project into 2015, expressing creativity and diversity through their unique styles and perspectives.(…)

The Word Project: details

the word project: forgotten

Another word project blog post from the CMteam, where we ask them to interpret a different word through their own personal images. It’s always so interesting and inspiring to see what everyone does with the different words, and these images really show how diverse and unique each photographer is.

This month’s word was ‘forgotten’. A word that conjures up so many distinct and powerful emotions, and our team perfectly displays that in their different variations that they share with us. We(…)

the word project: freelensing

Each month, the CMteam is asked to interpret a different word through their own personal images.  It’s been so fun watching the different variations of each word and this month was probably the most challenging to date.  The word chosen this month was ‘freelensing’, something that many of the team hadn’t attempted before.  Considering the extra challenge, we think they’ve come up with some really lovely and unique images, and we hope you enjoy them.

If you’d like to have a(…)

the word project: mysterious

Each month, the CMteam is given a single word and asked to interpret it through individual images.  This month we were given the word Mysterious, a word that can be interpreted in so many different ways.  The dictionary itself has three different definitions for it but when we think of it photographically, the definitions are much more varied.  We always look forward to showing creativity and diversity through our own unique styles and perspectives and we hope you enjoy these(…)

personal photo project: one year one lens

one year one lens

What is/was your personal project and what inspired you to start it?
My “One Year One Lens” project is a 365 I’m shooting exclusively with my 100mm.  I completed a traditional 365 in July of 2013 and was honestly a little afraid to stop shooting daily.  I saw so much growth in that year and loved having a year’s worth of photos of my girls while they are so young.  I wanted to(…)

3 inspiring tips from an experienced 365er

365:  A year-long journey in erasing fear, making mistakes, and creating art.

It is a distinctly great challenge to pick up your camera and shoot every single day for one year.  When I decided to begin a 365 project, I had no idea how the journey would stretch me.  For most of my life, I had been making art in the constraints of a very tight box.  Folded upon myself, I was fearful of everything – mistakes, judgment, taking risks -(…)

the word project: luminous

Each month, the CMteam are given a single word and asked to interpret it through individual images.  We look forward to showing creativity and diversity through our own unique styles and perspectives.

This month’s word, luminous which the Merriam Webster dictionary defines as “emitting or reflecting usually steady, suffused, or glowing light”, evoked and inspired an amazing collection of light filled image.  Although our photography styles differ, this month’s word really blended our images together beautifully.

We hope you enjoy this month’s(…)

kids of summer

What is/was your personal project and what inspired you to start it?
My personal project is titled “Kids of Summer.” One hot, summery afternoon, all the kids were playing out in the front yard, and it was just one of those picture perfect moments; one of those scenes that reminded me of my own childhood. I grabbed my camera and hid in the corner of the yard and just let them continue playing the way(…)

a man and his truck

What is/was your personal project and what inspired you to start it?
I’ve been calling my project ‘A Man and His Truck’, though it’s spread out a little to include my husband’s other project car (a Nissan 240).  I realized about a year ago that the bulk of my pictures were of my kids…I was in the middle of my first 365 and looking at my photos made it seem like my husband(…)

Sometimes it does the heart good to come together and share a mutual appreciation for something really special with a group of friends.  It’s not always easy finding the time in hectic lives to pursue our loves and dreams, so we’ve decided to keep things simple, authentic and fun as well as encouraging each other to pick up our camera from time to time.

The CMteam is excited to announce our very first collaborative project, The Word.  Each month, members of(…)
