Testimonials from alumni:
“I was totally new to Macro, and fell completely in love with it ! I joined as a full participant and I am so glad I did. The interaction with the other participants and the encouragement and CC by Monica, the TA’s and the Alumni helpers really helped me to improve my Macro skills. The PDF’s were very thorough and clearly written and full of inspiring images, and the assignments and challenges where original and fun to do. An absolute gem of a workshop and highly recommended!!”
“I took Monica’s Macro class during its first run, back in February 2013. I absolutely loved it and feel like it helped me really understand all the factors that go into solid, successful macro photography. I still have lots of room for growth, but I know that with practice, as I continue to implement all that Monica taught us, that growth will come. One thing I know for sure — I love macro and my macro lens. I’m a detail person by nature and macro photography gives me the freedom and tools to really examine the details around me. And I love the beautiful depth of field and subject isolation I can achieve when I get “up close and personal” with my macro lens.”
“If anyone is thinking about taking this workshop but is on the fence…jump OFF that fence and run and sign up. Seriously, this class is AMAZING. When I bought my macro lens, I thought it would just be an extension of what I had learned about photography thus far, just closer. It’s not. There are definitely specific concepts that need to be learned to master this art. Monica guided us in a very active class and was fabulous at following through to make sure each of her students understood the current lesson or challenge she provided. You definitely need to slow down when shooting macro and what I found is that I became much more thoughtful while looking through the viewfinder. It forces you to be more aware of your compositions, lighting, all the details, and what the story is you are trying to tell all before hitting the shutter. Plus…no chasing toddlers.”
“4 amazing weeks of fun! So different from the other classes, Macro 101 takes you up close and personal with so many things (not just flowers and insects!) and felt like 4 weeks of therapy. It was refreshing not having to deal with unwilling (or fast moving) models!”
“I really enjoyed Monica’s macro class! It was so much fun and so relaxing. It was especially nice to spend the month shooting something that couldn’t run away or hide from my camera! The lessons, and the bonus PDF’s each week were great. I also found the editing videos to be extremely helpful. I really appreciated the honest and specific feedback from Monica, Caroline, and the other TAs, and my classmates. They were all so kind and encouraging! I feel like I have a good foundation of knowledge now to move forward and more confidence in what I’m doing when it comes to my macro images. My absolute favorite part of the class was the mid-week challenges! They were so much fun! I think the challenges especially helped me to discover that there is a lot of joy in creating art with photography too.
When I started this journey of photography, it was purely as a means of capturing the little moments of my life that I wanted to savor, enjoy, and hold on to forever. That is still at the heart of why I do what I do, but since discovering CM this January, I feel like a whole new world of beauty and art has opened up to me. And I am so grateful to be in an environment where I can learn and grow! If you have been considering this class, I highly recommend you go sign up! You won’t regret it!”
“Macro 101 was a fantastic workshop experience that I highly recommend to anyone interested in macro photography! Monica’s materials are fantastic and presented in a way that works well for students with varying levels of experience in macro. She and the TAs provide super thorough and helpful feedback on assignments and answers to any questions. One of my favorite things about the workshop is that I was able to focus on my favorite macro subject (flowers!), but also learned how to create really neat and creative types of macro images that I never would have dreamed up on my own. In particular the mid-week challenges give you step-by-step directions for super creative images, and have given me lots of material to work with for a long time to come. If you’re interested in macro or even just looking to try something different, this is a must-take workshop!”
“I’m so glad I invested in FP and devoted the practice time to this course, because I learned so much in four short weeks! I went from just a owning a macro lens to actually using it –and selecting settings, manual focusing, and becoming BFFs with my neglected tripod. Monica (and TA’s and alum helpers) were so encouraging in teaching techniques and skills. Feedback was detailed, thoughtful, and specific. PDFs and additional material/challenges were packed with information and gorgeous images. Amazing course!”
