Ah, fall… crisp air, boot weather (I’m looking at YOU, Frye boots!) and the seasonal explosion of pumpkin spice everything!

Fall in New England is nothing short of spectacular.

Why not celebrate the season by making a super-easy crown of leaves to adorn your favorite noggin? These are perfect for play or a DIY photo prop and the best part is that there is no wire or tape involved.

These are also lovely to make with the little ones in your life. I learned how to make these little beauties from my sweet Grandma when I was a kid.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Gather freshly fallen leaves. Think soft and bendy and with long stems.

Take your first leaf and fold 1/3 of the leaf behind itself.

Take your next leaf and gently poke the end through the first folded leaf.

Weave the end in and out a few times.

Fold 1/3 of each leaf behind and continue this pattern until the crown is large enough to encircle the owner’s head.

Finish your crown by weaving the final leaf with the stem of the first leaf, being careful to tuck the ends in.

  2. Such a beautiful idea- and image of your daughter. The only thing that makes this even better is the fact that your grandmother taught you to do this!

  3. I did it..but mine is all floppy and doesn’t sit right and SUPER fragile…any tips on how to get it to stand up like yours?

  4. Thank you for sharing this! My kids and I made these today, and it was a wonderful fall family activity.
