clickinwalk | one member’s experience

There is something about fall.  Never does change feel as good as stepping outside and breathing in something so lovely for the first time each year.   The crisp sweet air, turning and falling leaves, sweatshirts, Uggs, comfort foods…traditions.  Go ahead!  Say you don’t love these things!

Last year I had the great pleasure of adding a new fall favorite to my list!  I co-hosted Minnesota’s ClickinWalk with another local photographer, the amazing and faaaaabulous Amy Lucy, and from thereon out, ClickinWalk was cemented on the list smack-dab between apple picking and making a gargantuan pot of chili!  I had such a fantastic time, I actually remember turning to Amy and saying “let’s do that again next month!”

The thing I think I loved the most was the diversity of women who all came together through their love of telling a story through their lens.  There were women who were just beginning on learning their camera settings all the way to seasoned professionals – those who preferred to shoot the models and others who captured really incredible skylines and snippets of nature.  There were also some who chose mostly to chat most of the walk.  And yes, I may be guilty on that one!

As photographers, I think sometimes we can hide behind our cameras and jumping into a social setting where we have only met others online might seem daunting.  The industry can be somewhat competitive and often locals are alienated from one another because of that stigma despite a common passion!  I love that the ClickinWalk provides the perfect opportunity to remedy that!  Because let’s face it, we’re all pretty awesome chicks!

The truth is, when I hosted last year I was new to ClickinMoms and had only rubbed shoulders with a few ladies on the forum.  By the end of the day I felt like I had not only networked and shot with some fab photographers but also connected with ladies who have since become my friends and who I’ve been able to continue to watch grow on both photography and personal levels!  Some of these girls are now people I “everyday” with and have been a huge blessing in my life!

I know that for so many of us, our fall calendars overwhelm but I want to encourage you to set some time apart for you!  Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional photographer, are looking forward to socialize with local photographers or are in desperate need of a new avatar (such as myself), please come join us!

So, what’s not to love?  Grab a friend, your camera bag, hit your coffee shop for a pumpkin-spice latte and come out for the afternoon!  I promise you’ll be adding it to your fall traditions, too!

Thank you to the Minnesota Walkers who shared their pictures with us – Amy Lucy Lockheart, Amy Roeder, Carrie Bayless, Cherise Gow, Denise Harner, Jennifer Jentz, Kelly Bruckner, Nicole Mathison, Tracy, Tracy Marie!

Will you be joining us for the second annual ClickinWalk this year?  If you haven’t done so, you can register on the ClickinWalk website.  See you there!

And thank you to our incredible and generous ClickinWalk sponsors!

Jen resides in Minnesota where she spent most of her childhood fending off her hobbyest mother's Hasselblad. Shortly after the birth of her son, her husband gave her a DSLR and she fell down the rabbit hole. Although she loves capturing her family's everyday moments, a very close second would be spending a few precious hours shooting a squishy-faced newborn. When Jen's not working as an office manager of a twin cities law firm, chasing her three children around with her D700, connecting with family and friends, or shopping - she's drinking coffee. Lots of it. Her perfect day starts with little feet pitter-pattering into the bedroom and then clambering into bed for family snuggles and ends with a quiet evening with her husband, a glass of Malbec, and a little reality tv.
