A Day In The Life with Melissa Stottmann

I’m a mom to two kids who are four and two. We have a fairly free schedule for another couple of years.  I’m busy with them, but we have very little structure to our days.  My daughter goes to pre-school every morning but otherwise each day is a little bit different.

This particular day started a bit before the picture taking began… I’m full speed ahead to keep things moving and my daughter has to be reminded to continue getting herself ready while my son needs to be slowed down.  When we finally got downstairs we started breakfast and prepared to head out.

We drop my daughter off at pre-school.

Next to the YMCA.  This is where it gets interesting…  some drama between Joey and Dawson ensued on my iPhone and kept me engaged while on the elliptical. Then I got the hiccups. Seriously, though, who gets the hiccups randomly at the gym?!  It was those loud, while not meaning to be this loud, hiccups.  The woman next to me kept giving me the side eye.  I was holding my breath, then realized I shouldn’t while working out. Anyhow — I rocked that workout…….. Grabbed a quick shower and picked up little man from KidZone.

To the grocery store we went! My husband’s parents are arriving tonight for the weekend so I had to stock up on some extras. Mums were on sale — so I grabbed 3!

My buddy and I arrived a bit early to pick up my daughter.  He cried until I let him “dwwwwweyeee” (drive). Then he screamed “pop-pop” until I allowed a lollipop to shush him. After devouring that baby in 2 minutes there was some ridiculous yelling when we entered her school because he wanted to continue driving.

We get back in the car after school pick-up and play the window game while on the way to meet Daddy for lunch.  You know… the one where my son wants the window up, then realizes it’s making him mad and wants it down, only to scream “WINDOW” because he wants it up.

We get settled at the hot dog shop.  My husband grabbed some ketchup for the french fries that were cooking.  The kids begin to make a meal of it.  I asked them to stop.  Then this happened (this is an after shot- the huge globs are removed; it was the whole container).  I took  a few deep breaths and soldiered on…

Got home just in time for the little guy’s nap.  He sleeps with “freeee” animals (he means ‘three’ but it’s really four assorted stuffed animals).  Sweet boy sure does love his nap!  Abby plays with some Doc McStuffins puzzles and then joins me in the office while I work for a bit.

A few hours later it’s playtime.  The three of us went onto the back porch to play while waiting for Daddy to get home.  What started out rainy turned into a nice evening – even a bit chilly and some leaves have started falling.  I swept them up and the kids thought it would be a great idea to put them on my head. I even gave my daughter the camera for a shot of me. A quick “put the square on mommy’s eye” helped her get the shot in focus!

Somehow I completely missed dinner in this day of photographing.  A meltdown happened.  So, it’s now time for bed! My husband put them to bed while I finished cleaning up the guestroom for our visitors set to arrive late, made some banana bread, and started on my mountain of laundry folding!

And that, my friends, is my glamorous and wonderful life!
