I stressed about inviting y’all into a “day in my life.” My to do list was a mile long – declutter, clean up, organize clothes, ahem… take a shower – and then I realized I might be sharing a day with you, however it was not going to be from my life. My life is a little cluttered. My boys will on occasion dress themselves in outfits I might not choose. And some days I don’t shower until 9 o’clock at night. Now you know all my dirty little secrets. I guess it is only right that you spend a day in the life with me now, right?
It is the weekend and because my boys are 3 and 6 they can get themselves a drink and turn on Disney Jr. so that the hubs and I can sleep in a bit. This means I wake up to daylight – WOO HOO!
One of us stumbles out of bed at some point to check on them and make sure all is well in the world of siblings. Today it was me. I grabbed a cup of coffee for myself in one of my favorite mugs. I collect mugs, but I try to keep it under control. I think I have 9 and none of them match another. I like it that way… makes me smile every single morning. Next to the coffee mug is another vice… my dang iPhone. I love and hate that thing all at the same time. I am working on detaching myself from it… it is a slow process!
After watching a little of The Today Show in bed, both the hubs and I get up because we have a big to-do to get done – put up the Christmas tree. Thankfully my guy is all big and strong because he was able to get our 10 foot tree up without me lifting a finger.
I let the tree sit for a bit to let the branches drop and while I did not get the ornaments on that day, I did manage to get the lights up.
I am getting ahead of myself though, so let’s go back a bit. While that hubs of mine was putting up the tree, I was making breakfast for the kids… which I burnt *hangs head sheepishly*. I accept that I cannot make breakfast foods to save my life. Fortunately, there were chocolate chips in those pancakes, so my kiddos ate them eagerly and didn’t seem to mind the, er, browner parts.
The boys settled in after breakfast to watch The Polar Express and even though I do not like them to watch a lot of TV, it is Sunday and that means from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the hubs and I will take over the television to watch the Redskins game. Both hubs and I grew up in Maryland and do not joke around when it comes to the NFL. We even had our own little Fantasy League for a few years running with names and everything. My favorite fantasy team name I had was “It’s on like Ndamukong.” (I tend to ramble a bit… have you figured that out yet?)
My littlest guy gets a little antsy for attention by the end of the game – which isn’t surprising because we went into OT.
I run upstairs to check out the super awesome building that he made – something his older brother also used to do at this age. Sigh – love my little ones.
He did not want me to take a picture with him next to the building , but I managed to snap a shot of that sweet little smile regardless.
Fortunately we have a gingerbread decorating party to jet off to – with which the boys were so excited about that it warranted an outfit change. My kids change their clothes at least once a day… often two or three times. I cannot be the only one with kids that like to keep it so fresh and so clean as the day goes on?!
The gingerbread party is a HIT and I race the little guys back home, praying they don’t fall asleep in the car. If they do, they will never EVER go to sleep that night. I am lucky today… they stay awake.
I redeem myself in the kitchen by whipping up a mean red beans and rice when I get home. To say “whipped up” is misleading… I worked on it off and on all day.
Hubs got the boys bathed and teeth brushed after dinner and we took a man-on-man coverage approach to bedtime. I got the big dude, hubs took the little dude. It wasn’t hard to find the big dude that night… he made a trail for me to follow that led straight to him.
This mess is going to have to sit there until tomorrow… I am plain, ol’ whooped.
My big dude chooses a book to read with me – which can often take a LOOOONG time, but fortunately it is quick tonight. Then it is lights out.
I catch sight of our tree all pretty and whatnot from the 2nd floor. I don’t notice it until now, but the tree is crooked. So crooked that it will fall in 48 hours and take all of my glass ornaments down with it. That is another story for another time though.
Thanks for spending a day with me. Come back again real soon, okay? 😉
